#warhammer #warhammer40k
For some reason the background music makes me uncomfortable... can't imagine why.
"The game is based on luck." Only if you suck. lol
Whenever kids complain about taking statistics, teachers should just turn them into war gamers and watch the GPAs rise lol
Just on the title, my response: "Yeah, it's also knowing DO NOT CHARGE YOUR GUYS INTO KATAPHRANS!"
"You're rolling all these dice" *Drops 10 dice* - Me looking at my dump truck full of dice for my Ork Shootaz -
To me, the people who say 40k is "too luck based" are the same people who find the cheesiest way to fight a boss then complain when it gets patched, not because the boss is unfair but because they're just too lazy to put in the work
It is most definately a game of luck. You tell me it's not about luck... I say you gotta make 16 4+'s and you make 14 of them at a .001526% chance... and I tell you, this game is about luck.
me attacking a space marine with kisses: 😘😘😘😘😘😳😳😳😳😳
Basically if you like playing mundo or any other stat based champion in league you will like the math in this game.
Love this video and your WH40k journey. You should take your encylcopeadic rain man tai lopez knahledge and maths powah and obliterate the competitive wh40k world.
You get 10 points just for painting? Really?
As someone currently learning to build my first team, this video was incredibly useful at pushing me into checking more carefully the numbers. Thanks for convincing me into losing another week!
this is why i hate pandemic. i can't play with my friends with warhammer DAMN IT NURGLE!
BUT WE CAN MAKE IT BETTER
I was afraid whem my dude said "This video is..." 1:26 as i thought raid shadow legends did it again
The numbers spell disaster
Well compared to Corvus Belli's Infinity, Malifaux or Warhammer Underworlds, W40k has a stupid amount of luck involved and a much lower skill cap. After all W40k is a wargame not a skirmisher game and is meant to be played as a roleplaying game rather than competitively because once you start playing competitively it becomes like modern magic the gathering instead of commander which is not fun.
andddd ..... boom.
I just graduated high school in june and i have no idea how u did ANY of the math
Has anyone one won a whole tournament with rng, in other words won every match on pure luck (I have done so once in a small pool tournament I signed up for because my friend thought it would be fun I didn't really know how to play but won the whole thing on luck
Going fist in WH40k is a huge deal! The win rate is like 80% when you go first and everybody is ignoring that fact! GW should do something about the game mechanics....
Damn that high roll with the kisses... D3 dmg on 2 wound models never worked that good for me, it's a cursed combination.
Tyranids: cool monsters that run down people and eat them GW: no
So not a math-asian that he has to read it off a screen.
To be honest, during the math section, all I was able to hear was Scott Steiner doing the math for sacrifice
I think its incorrect to say that luck doesn't matter and at all in 40k. I'd relate it more to professional poker: yeah, luck can be really nice and make the game easier for you, but at the end of the day you win more with skill than with luck.
Totally agree that probability and strategy are waaaaaay more important than luck in this game. In my experience, nerds arguing about measurements and line of sight is also a major component though... ;-)
Laser pointers?
14:00 I'm waiting for him to say something like "BRICKY, THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE, AND HEY SPELL 171545732 FOR YOU"
Then you throw Custodes into the mix!
Tell that to the Ork's Turn 1 we just watched!!!
Rip Awuwubois squad lmao That reminds me, I need to finish watching that match, it was like 7am and I needed to sleep so I stopped lol
This is some scott steiner level math here. I love it.
If I wanted to do that much math, I would go back to Shadowrun 5th edition...
Why do you even take the opinion of someone who can't spell "professionally" seriously?
141 ppl fail math class
Woah that lictor stat line is so wrong. Lictors kick ass and can rip apart some squads by themselves.
everything is a luck game to some degree but yeah here your job is to make your chances the best they can be you could still get steam rolled by pure luck but you can make it fucking unlikely
...you open up... with vapping. :/
If you can play poker competitively you can play any "luck" based game
Uhhh but no one is pulling out white boards during their games. I love the spectacle of the game but if you roll all ones then you wont feel like its a fair "competitive" game. Yes if you roll a thousand dice in a game it will balance out to average bit in that case why not just remove dice entirely because whats the difference. I prefer more big brain games like stratego but always love watching a 40k batrep because it looks cool. It's a aesthetic random battle sim with light influence on the outcome.
The only game that is played professionally that I can think of that has no luck involved in its system is CS:GO and even then I don't think the lack of randomness makes it more competitive than other FPS, just a different breed
Matt I’m 2 weeks late but u looking good and healthy ngl but make sure you be eating good yknow much love peace - ur #1 Korean fan
if pro mtg exists pro 40k can exist
Dude TfT set 1 xD
This is like learning how to minmax your character efficiently so that you're able to deal the most amount of dps that you're capable of dealing
As an avid wargamer that plays tons of games. I agree blaming luck only is nonsense. I think the bigger issue is that Warhammer feels pretty close to pay to win. And the cost to keep up with the meta to play at a high level. Too much of the game (for my tastes is decided at list building). More modern rulesets allow for your in game tactical decisions to make a much larger difference in game. (Ie Guild Ball, Malifaux, Infinity). The other main thing. Is the ruleset is pretty antiquated. The whole activate all your stuff, then the opponent activates all their stuff needs to go. Having played a TON of wargames. In 2020 there is no reason not to have alternating activations. Makes a much more tactical game (feinting, managing activation order/control, etc...)
Also, hammering a unit with 8 strength 10 hits and rolling all 1's with no re-rolls can play on your mind for the rest of the game leading to dumb moves.
The other big thing in the game is "How in the hell did I miss that???" Having a wonderful plan, being distracted by the 120 orks and forgetting if you threw a bouncy bright ball they would chase it. Consequently your plan has gone kaka because you let yourself be distracted.
For the exocrine you forgot to add the exploding 6's to the rerolling ones. It is 7/6 average hits per shot not 10/9. Without rerolls, 1,2 miss 3,4 hit and 5 6 hit twice, giving us an average of 1 hit per shot. adding in rerolls 1/6 of the time we turn a miss into another shot which has and average number of hits of 1, so 1 + 1/6 * 1 is 7/6
y'all have motherfucking GLOOMHAVEN??? After the 40k videos I want to see y'all play that and more tabletop games
Math
Tbh I would buy the dice check mat if it came with the nut face on it
Is this how family members and friends feel whenever I am talking about the things I enjoy? It's good to see Math happy (but in pain doing the math) while play 40k?
Matt, can you play Here to Slay?
Though I hate RNG in "competitive" games, Warhammer at least has ways to mitigate luck.
That white board and lab coat got a lot more use than I thought it would.
I read a lot about Warhammer 40k, bought a lot from the black library. I just need a little push again to grab my paint set and get my terminators ( Dorn's fan chapter)
Could you make a "How to Play Warhammer 40k video"? I've been trying to learn how to play Warhammer for awhile and most of the resources are decently complicated to understand.
Try mobile legends again they upgraded
The more dice you roll, the more likely it is that your total will be average. You roll hundreds of dice in a game of 40k.
40k is more controlled by whether or not GW decided to make your codex overpowered this edition than luck or player skill.
there is no competetive "sport" that has no luck involved. warhemmer - dice. poker - shuffeling of cards. fakkit! theres even luck involved in a soccerplayer hitting the ball! the better the player, the greater the CHANCE of hitting the ball. and so on.... cant believe there is still people to stupid to understand that NOTHING IN THIS FAKKING WORLD is 100% skill....
Apparently games of chance can't be proffesionally competitive??? Isnt there a number of TV channels that show proffesional poker?
OR you can play space marines, bring eradicators and repulsor executioners, and see how your opponent loses any willingness to play 40k smh
Man, I want to get into Warhammer but all this math is pretty scary to me.
What kind of dice are those? My god. They were hot. (And large.)
Aren't exploding 6s only on unmodified 6s now?
If anyone here listens to the Independent Characters podcast, I can just imagine Mr. Carl Tuttle facepalming throughout this entire video ( because of the comedic style ) lol. I think the info showcased is incredibly useful for people like me who are just getting into the hobby though. I took one look at some data sheets and immediately got intimidated due to all the numbers! This helped me wrap my brain around the mechanics though. Great video.
Ah yes a dunkey clone in it's natural habitat.
Do a video on the new season11
40k SUCKS because one side shoots AND moves before the other can even react. LIKE WTF IS THAT GAME DUDE proper games have initiative bouncing back and forth between players.
Never had I known that Mat was actually good at math. LoL players usually suck ass it.
i have never had such a fun time contemplating math hammer in my life until this day. thank you good sir. subscribed.
Sorry man, the neoprene objective marker, kind of wrecks the feel of the terrain. maybe make it more blending to terrain. Who wants those blobs on the battle mat. Make different types for different terrain so you sell more and it looks better. There you go buddy, pay me latter, I just made you so much more money.
just cut out a transparent plastic. It blends better. I don't get why you have to buy that thing
Not a game of luck , but a game of unbalanced armies...
I want to play war hammer but I’m retarded
Last time I watched you you played league of legends lol
It’s not luck.....that’s why we see so many professional craps players in Vegas.....RNG = luck, period.
"See Joe, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you, at sacrifice!"
When he started the going into the math I immediately thought about our lord and savior Scott Steiner
this video made me feel i was back in high school math class and i got asked to solve a problem in front of the class
Hey matt i know you may ignore this but i just wanna tell you that i love your content, from league to Warhammer and maybe there's tons of people unsubing because you dont make league content anymore but its not the game its the content, its rare that i stay with a youtuber even if they change there content but you still always make me laugh, thanks for that content matt and keep it up even you only upload like once every 2 to 3 months😂
the comment you showed did not say "it's all about luck"... it said " it has TOO MUCh luck" not the same thing
Warhammer is about you being as consistent as possible and forcing your opponent to be lucky as often as possible. And different factions do it differently, space marines reroll hits where as orks just fill the table with dice.
People saying Warhammer is all luck, then going to loading into solo que like that shit isn’t luck based
holy shit matt, did you lose weight? you look good man! keep up the good work!
Why do I feel like I'm being held hostage in a visual novel game by a self-aware, psychotic poetry buff?
"Wounding on 4+" *leaves in the threes* -> kills an entire Marine Squad... Don't trust a statistic u didn't tamper with yourself i guess xD
I learned more about math in this video than in school
how can you think about luck when you're playing with a sexy thicc daddy
I love how the title and the thumb nail contradict each other lol
Yes, my Plague Marines ARE very durable, and yes, I have a bunch of saves to mitigate damage, but not getting hit is better than being tanky. Relying on the dice to win you the match is a last resort sort of thing, proper movement, deployment, and powers/stratagems used at the right time is what makes all the difference.
Thats one hell of a freaking stat line.
Realy digging the lab coat bro
SPACE MARINE: We will march across the galaxy, driven by the Emperor's divine will. We shall stomp out all trace of xenoplague from the realms of man...just as soon as I do some fractions... divided by 1/3... carry the X... just, give me a minute here...
I love the Warhammer content! Big glow up from champion spotlights to math-hammer
This is the nerdiest fucking video I have ever seen in my entire life. Its amazing.
This is the math I needed to not suck at World of Darkness games. Thanks!
HOLD ON!!! Rolling a Dice isnt LUCK? LOL c'mon man...
Even with all probability considered, at the end of the day its a game of dice and luck. The game is so poorly balanced that "competitive" is an absolute meme compared to other competitive games. Drafting doesnt really exist either since you cant change your list for different opponents during an event, ending in everybody playing the same cookie-cutter meta lists till there is a change to the game.
I gotta say most of this stuff is too much thinking for me but your enthusiasm makes me want to learn more and support your content the best i can thank you very much!
i felt the math pain
Ngl, kinda sounds like EA trying to convince people that lootboxes isn't gambling.
