  • Great video as always! Our biggest article by far on how to save money on the hobby was for cases to transport your minis This one on doing a hobby swap meet or flea market at your local store I can't recommend enough! They are super fun it's like a IRL eBay!

  • If I remember correctly, you forgot to mention clippers and glue, which now that I think about it, you might have skipped over cause of suggesting people buy on eBay. But if they would rather get unbuilt minis, these are kinda required. I'd suggest the Plato 170 model shears (currently a little less than $12) you can find cheaper, but these have the thinnest clipper head which can be make or break on ease of building some minis. And glue, just get a bottle of lecture for $2 from Walmart. I do like citadel plastic glue for plastics, but that's expensive. And another cheap way to try it out (but don't try to play against people you don't personally know) you could cut out the correct base size from chip board and try to find the hight of the minis and width and stick a chipboard standee on your "bases" this is kinda hard to do though considering both information is spotty and you might find older, smaller sculpt sizes.

  • For paints, have a look a craft paints. You are getting a big bottle for a couple of bucks,. It is a trial and error thing. Some are really really crappy, but some are really really good. For basing, they help you save your hobby paints for models. Some of my go to off white, blacks, browns and blue are craft paints. Just be careful of the transparent colors, yellow and orange they are most likely crappy.

  • if you ain't picky, the only reason i still have facebook is for the amount of warhammer buy/sell/trade groups and just look for deals and bargins. i've started a necrons force and i've found plenty of staple units like doomsday arks, command barges, immortals- for cheaper than i would've if i went to the stores. now of course i'd say support your local stores- but you know what, if its cheaper to get it from B instead of A, thats more money in your pocket

  • -There is some package that have rule books inside. So you may not have to buy those books, those package are normally a good chunk but they contain so much that they cost less by fingurine. You need to know the rules but one rulebook for many players when you play among friend is enough+ your army codex. -Starter set contains two army so if you start one and your friend start the other one, one or more kit where you take your army parts might be a good deal. -Modification of the figurine is part of the hobby but also a way to lower the cost. Make a figurine that was blow up by a mine and you have some part of figurine to make another one. Some army like orks are known to steal stuff and make it their own so you can have a lot of fun in using low cost figurine that you modify to make them count as the costly one. You will begin to keep cork from wine bottle, small rocks, dry herbs etc to have a lot of stuff to use as base for the figurine. You can save a lot by using your imagination -Watch for used parts. A lot of people buy stuff that they don't have the time to paint and finally resell them near mint or they have parts left because they chose a configuration. -magnet are good because you can change the configuration of a figurine when your army change or the rule change -Table can be a 4/6 sheet that you put over a smaller table or the ground. Stores will provide tables to play there so it might be an option to skip the table -You manipulate the figurine a lot so use paint made for figurine or that you know is hard or the paint will scratch or peel. Learn to mix color to have less different one in stock. Learn to use wet pallet because acrylic paint dry fast and you will lose less of it. clean you brush well so they last longer.

  • My issue wasn't so much the cost as I have a 2000 point grey knights and like 900 something chaos space marines....somewhere...hopefully...maybe, but the actual painting. I am not artistic at all and become frustrated while painting sadly. I want my models to look decent but I just can't and I have ended up giving up 3 times on the game. I love the actual game play of the game but I guess I didn't watch enough Bob Ross.

    • Check out cosmonauts video on how to play warhammer. You dont have to watch the whole video. Just skip near the end where he demonstrates HOW SHAKY his hands are and yet he can still paint his ultramarine really well! That part of the video gave me confidence about this hobby and about painting the minis. I think it's that video that made me commit to buying the customers wardens as my first ever warhammer minis. Because I'm not that artistic and my hands have the shakes as well.

  • Let me recite a tale I heard on ye olde internet of how not to play 40k cheaply... There was a guy, back in the... early 2000s, I think?? He would visit his local GW every week to buy a few Space Marines, chat with the staff a little and leave. Eventually, the staff asked him how his army was coming along. After all, he had a good thousand or so points by now, right? The guy replied that no, he only had a few hundred points. Confused, the staff asked why. He'd been throwing away thousands of points' worth of models because they had died in-game. Every Ultramarine that had died in battle had been dropped in the trash. (I have no proof this is true, but I wholeheartedly believe it happened, if for no other reason than relatives of mine have asked if that is a requirement to play. To my utter incredulity.)

Also Dark Imperium or Know No Feat sets (this is being replaced in 9th I believe), but splitting that between you and a buddy or sell one half. Core rulebook is in there too in Dark Imperium. Wahapedia is a superb tip, and hope that remains!

GWs and army painters primer are made with minis in mind and sorta shrink a bit when drying so they get into all the small details without getting gunked up. it may have been the spray primer i used but im not running the risk of destroying my +$30 models cus i want to save 5 bucks on primer.
